12.15: ‘The perfect steak’: Demo and tasting

Luke Vandore-Mackay Owner of High Grange Devon and former head chef at Borough Market, will show you how to source, butcher and cook the perfect steak. He will talk about and use the best beef in the world (in his opinion!) - ex-dairy beef from Oli at  ‘Meat Matters’. You will learn what ex-dairy beef is, how  to cook different cuts using different techniques over wood and charcoal and learn about some delicious sides and sauces to go with it.  

1.30pm - Lunch:

Lunch will be served at our beautiful woodland table and cooked on our various barbecues and fire pits.

Tapas Masterclass & Paella Lunch with the Strawberry Tree - Friday 23rd June 11am - 3pm

We're massive fans of Spanish food here at High Grange - a pre-children treat used to be long weekends in San Sebastian for pinchos grazing, sherry supping and Sideria visiting. As you can imagine we were delighted to meet Ed and Giselle from Strawberry Tree in the heart of Lyme's Town Mill at a Jurassic Feast meeting. We immediately felt like these were 'our' kind of people and immediately started thinking about a collaboration..... after a boozy dinner and a more sensible morning meeting we think that we've come up with a fantastic event.

Ed runs a calm, friendly, knowledgeable front of house and Gibraltan-born Giselle knocks out plate after plate of delicious, authentic tapas from her tiny galley kitchen (I simply can't fit in it so when we do the return leg I'll be roasting things outside!).

Itinerary:

11am - Tapas Masterclass & Tasting

As you arrive at High Grange in glorious Summer sunshine (!?) you will be met with a glass of Cava and the smell of woodsmoke. You are welcome to wander through our beautiful woodland and gardens until we begin a Tapas masterclass. Luke used to compere the demo kitchen at Borough Market so we'll do it in a similar style with Luke and Giselle prepping and serving tapas whilst ruminating about all things cooking and hospitality - there will be lots of tasters and plenty of opportunity to ask questions to both chefs. We’ll send you off to harvest some of the veg that we'll be using and even collect your own eggs from our HG chickens.

This is a one off event and is highly likely to sell out so early booking is recommended - what could be better than gorgeous tapas, great wine and a beautiful view over the rolling east devon countryside.

12.30pm - Paella Lunch

After the masterclass there will be a 30 minute interlude to have another drink, check out our outdoor kitchen and generally relax before we serve lunch around our great oak communal feasting table.
