Some Feasting and Barbecue School events at at High Grange Devon in April
I’m sitting writing this at lunchtime on Wednesday 5th April in my indoor kitchen when I should be instead, cooking a whole lamb in my outdoor kitchen. Sadly we’ve had to cancel our first ever meal because of intemperate weather. I suppose that’s not bad after 2 years but it still hurts, to let our customers down and of course financially - particularly in this economic climate. The lamb is going in the freezer and I’ll try and use everything else over the next few days and months but it’s not ideal. Come on Spring/Summer, hospitality needs you….
But! We’re hardy, optimistic souls here at High Grange so I thought that I’d let you know about just 4 events that still have some tickets available in April. Theres a real range of events for most budgets and tastes - whether you fancy a ‘Cheeky Nandos’ (URGH) High Grange Style - Piri Piri organic chickens, grilled over wood embers with triple cooked chips or a gastronomic night of canapes, cocktails and a five course tasting menu but with the same famous, informal, magical atmosphere. Or if you want to actually learn we are excited to be in the final four of The Best Cookery School in The West (winner announced next month) We’re up against Rick Stein amongst others. I’m so proud of these courses - they’re the absolute distillation of everything that I’ve learnt in 20 years but with the added bonus of the beauty of High Grange and most importantly the greatest produce in the world. We cover beginner, intermediate and more experienced - its a friendly, informal way to learn how to up your BBQ game.
So in chronological order:
Saturday April 15th - FULL DAY FIRE SCHOOL
Wednesday April 19th - PORTUGUESE CHICKEN AND CHIPS FIRE SUPPER
Friday April 21st - BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE HALF DAY FIRE SCHOOL
Friday April 28th -FIVE COURSE TASTING MENU FEAST NIGHT
We also have all of our May, June, July and beyond events on our website if April is a bit too last minute! We’re also as a bonus for 2023 giving every Fire School Attendee an HG Tote bag full of HG merch - hot sauce, mugs, mags, recipe cards etc etc.
We hope that you had a great Easter with friends and family and that warmer, drier days are just around the corner! Please remember that hospitality needs you if you can possibly afford it - your local pub, neighbourhood restaurant or indeed, venues like us can only survive and thrive if people use them. To borrow a phrase from a couple of years ago…… EAT OUT TO HELP OUT!
