Autumn Wellbeing at High Grange

Have you heard of the 7 types of rest we all need? There’s the foetus-position-on-the-sofa physical rest, of course. But we also need sensory rest (turning that bloody phone off), emotional rest (having time and space to express your feelings), spiritual rest (engaging in something greater than yourself like community involvement or meditation), mental rest (writing in a journal), creative rest (such as taking a walk outdoors or painting) and social rest (being with people who make you happy). And a straw poll of my friends shows that in these post-lockdown uncertain times of social and economic unrest we are, to put it bluntly, buggered.


The Soul Sessions

With the rest we all need (but often lack) in mind, I’ve curated a new monthly space called The Soul Sessions. Each month we’ll take an hour and a half out of our busy lives to come together in our cosy Shippen, to listen to an inspirational speaker guide us through an aspect of physical and mental health, followed by a practical exercise we can take home, as well as an interactive discussion. It’s sensory, emotional, spiritual, mental, creative and social rest in one! We’ll be covering everything from how to use breath to bring rest to our busy lives, dealing with hormones and menopause, post-natal rehab, deep-dive yoga sessions, parenting and psychology, dipping our toes into spirituality, and small business, brand and life coaching. I’ll be adding some creative masterclasses to supplement these sessions, with classes on foraging and gardening, history, floristry, art and fossils, among others.

What better way to start than a session on how you can find time for things like this that you need in your life (and if you think you don’t have time for this, I’m pretty sure Janey would say you need it the most)!! Janey Holliday is a positive mindset and small business coach and will be doing a positive (and radical!) session on time management and life coaching, with a view to leading you calmly into the festive season. She’s been an inspiration to me for years, particularly doing lockdown, and I love her way of putting a positive spin on shitty situations, and making sure you prioritise non-negotiable me-time - for her, paddle boarding in the Sidmouth Bay (she doesn’t do WhatsApp groups - the audacity!). She’s doing a brilliant session on time and life management, with practical tips and tricks to take away. Our upcoming list of further speakers will be announced soon.

Healing Circle - Reiki & Breathwork with Natalie Vallely

Natalie curates a wonderful evening of meditation, reiki and breath work, designed to ground you back into your life and heal unregulated trauma and pain you may be carrying. Natalie is a certified reiki master and breathwork facilitator.

Fitness - Rosie Jackson

Rosie Jackson will begin Strength and Fitness classes at High Grange on 19th October. She aims to help you get in the shape of your life - for life. Whether your goals relate to health, fitness levels or body composition, her aim is to help you. No equipment is necessary, she concentrates on body weight movements and in particular future proofing against Osteoporosis and poor posture aiming for muscle growth, better balance and improved flexibility.

Each class is different and suitable for all abilities. All exercises can be progressed and regressed so no-one gets left behind and everyone is challenged. Gain muscle, get fitter, lose weight!

Holistic Massage / Nutrition - Emily Lanigan

Emily offers holistic massage, and nutrition therapy. She has been working in the health and wellness space for over 20 years, and is also a qualified personal trainer and sports massage therapist, now offering holistic work in deep relaxation and healing, using Neil’s Yard massage oils. She is also a qualified holistic nutritional therapist. She specialises in treating autoimmune conditions by healing from the inside out using food and lifestyle management. having battled with an auto immune thyroid condition herself.
