Tapas Masterclass and Paella Lunch with the Strawberry Tree - Friday 23rd June 11am to 3pm
On Friday 23rd June, High Grange is linking up with the brilliant Strawberry Tree in Lyme Regis, to host a Spanish tapas masterclass and paella lunch.
Spanish food is our favourite - Luke and my first ever holiday together was in Basque Country in San Sebastián, where we spent the whole day drinking Rioja and eating pintxos, with black cod from Cuchara de San Telmo and the best Jamon, before heading up to the mountain Cideras for pork knuckle and limitless cider. (We are returning this Summer but with pesky kids, am thinking it may not be exactly the same…)
So it was a delight to meet Gibraltan-born Giselle and Ed, who have the same love of Spanish lifestyle and food that we do, and their own beautiful restaurant and cookery school in the Town Mill oasis of Lyme.
You’ll arrive at 11am and we’ll offer you a glass of cava (we are in Spain after all…), inviting you to wander round our gardens to the sounds of Spanish guitar (maybe with a wee Devon cockerel in the background), coming together in our central woodland bar where Luke and Giselle will be chatting about all things Spanish food and tapas, and giving you a demonstration on how to make the classics - we’ll be picking what is perfect seasonally but we’ve been discussing pan con tomate, jamon croquettes and grilled squid or cuttlefish.
Once you’ve eaten some delicious tapas, we’ll invite you top up your glass as you watch Luke and Giselle perfecting the paella which will be cooking in our beautiful woodland kitchen over our Vulcanus grill. Having stuffed you full of seafood, we’ll offer you a meat (rabbit or chicken) paella or a Spring vegetable paella, and once you’ve tried that, we’ll offer you a Spanish pud (perhaps with a sweet wine?) - a tarto de Santiago perhaps.
We guarantee you’ll be ready for your Summer holiday, filled with the joys of a Spanish Summer, inspired by ideas for tapas suppers, and relaxed from a day in our woodland eating and chatting. And Luke will be doing a return match at Strawberry Tree, bringing our Barbecues to their lovely garden - watch this space!
