January - Wellbeing & Haggis
We hope you’ve had a magical Christmas! Luke was cooking all festive season, the Turkey outside on the barbecue of course, with goose and ham (uneaten by the dog this year), and sprouts from our veggie patch. It was a buzzing boozy family affair and now we settle into this lovely lull between Christmas and New Year of decluttering and making plans for ‘23, and then he’ll be doing it all again to bring in Hogmanay, this time with lobster bisque and ex-dairy rib of beef for visiting friends (check out our Instagram later today for some photos).
While I’m taking care not to launch myself into a “New Year New You” mentality which feels a little too much of a shock to the system - and tends to fail abysmally - some of you may wish to focus on your wellbeing this month, not least to calm the nerves in a post-lockdown-cost-of-living-crisis world. We’ve been working hard on our wellbeing offerings in the Shippen, making it a place of beauty, rest and refuge; and building a community of like-minded talented practitioners. We are doing our own events too - our Soul Sessions, a monthly talk circle where we invite experts to discuss different aspects of mental and physical health, and we are planning our first HG Day Retreat, bringing together cooking and wellbeing, in the Summer. We set out our wellbeing offerings below.
We are fairly abstemious this month, but we make two exceptions every year - Luke’s birthday in mid January, an otherwise miserable supper typically attended by a group of friends all doing diets or Dry Jan, and of course Burns night, the only night of the year I drink whisky, and eat the best home-made haggis. Details of how to book in are below. Whatever January looks like for you, just be kind to yourself - its rough out there!
