High Grange wins "Best Fine Dining Restaurant" at the Food Drink Devon Awards
We are delighted to tell you that, as well as winning a Gold Award for our barbecue cooking class Fire School, we took away the trophy for the best Fine Dining restaurant at Monday’s Food Drink Devon awards.
The Food Drink Devon “mystery shopper” judges awarded the highest of awards to High Grange because “the cookery was of the highest calibre” and “it felt as if we were being served by friends”. Eating a menu including fire pit ‘crack dust’ prawns, red mullet, mussel popcorn, brown crab aioli and apple smoked venison loin, they referred to the ‘magical dining experience’ where guests sit in Devon woodland around an oversized oak table, watching the sun set while your food is expertly cooked over fire.
To prove that our modern British barbecue, cooked outdoors on barbecues and fire pits over wood fire and smoke, and plated up on a giant oak tree, can be as “fine dining” as linen table cloths and silver service is an absolute honour and a privilege, and we are incredibly thankful to the judges at Food Drink Devon for recognising this.
Luke says: “It’s an incredible honour to receive this recognition. At High Grange, we’re committed to creating something truly special - cooking over live fire is an ancient technique, but one that allows us to connect deeply with the ingredients and our environment. My brand of perfectionism isn’t about symmetrical carrots and tweezered micro herbs, it’s about extracting the most flavour that I physically can from an ingredient that is exactly of its time and place, where generosity and deliciousness is everything. This award is testament to the dedication of our team and the beautiful produce we’re fortunate to work with in Devon.”
